History

NAMA was founded in Athens in 1990 with our first activities being around the water cycle and thus the brand name was selected. In Greek, the word "NAMA" means the running water of a spring or river. The Danish company CARL BRO (now GRONTMIJ A/S) initially participated in the shareholder base, before exiting in 1997. After that, the base expanded with the welcoming of new partners.

Our principle was to not only provide specific knowledge, but complete integrated solutions. Therefore, from the early years, NAMA became active in the sectors of Structural, Environmental, Surveying Engineering & GIS in an integrated manner. Soon, the firm expanded its activity in the field of Transport engineering, now covering the whole spectrum of civil infrastructure works.

In the meantime, we also developed all the supporting activities for these projects and particularly the sector of Geology and Geotechnical Engineering.

Even from its very first steps, NAMA was one of the leading companies in the introduction of new technologies in Greece. In 1992, we participated in the SPRINT program that aimed at the transfer of technical knowledge for the control of water supply network leakages.

NAMA is one of the first companies involved in the project of the National Cadastre of Greece. The first relevant contract was signed in 1995.

The firm contributed significantly in the development of the infrastructure supporting the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004, completing studies for major projects such as the Olympic Equestrian Centre and New Horse Racetrack of Athens and the Olympic Sailing Centre at Agios Kosmas.

In 2008, NAMA invested in the field of road mapping with the use of pioneering systems and software.

In 2009, the Laboratory of Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials & Quality Control NAMALAB SA commenced its operation with the participation of NAMA in the shareholder base.

ΝΑΜΑ is based in a private building in Athens, at the area of Nea Filothei since 2001.

A route of so many years is reasonable to have its sad sides. First on 28 August 2004, Giannis Tselentis, then on 7 October 2018, George Kazos passed away. Both were founders of NAMA, heads of the sector Water and Environment and members of our Board of Directors. The sorrow of NAMA's family for the loss of our partners and friends is great.
